CityScene Magazine – Contributing Writer/Editorial Assistant

I enjoyed immersing myself in the world of magazine writing as a contributing writer and editorial assistant at CityScene Media Group. My days were filled with writing about books, shows, films, restaurants, community events, and more. I also polished my interview skills as I gathered quotes and information for in-depth articles.

For each piece, I received feedback from editors to improve my writing and finalize stories before publishing. This was a refreshing and rewarding experience, and I am grateful for having worked with the wonderful team at CityScene Media Group.

I had the pleasure of covering the story on a new scholarship offered by Pickerington Public Library. I conducted interviews, wove together quotes and text, and crafted a positive tone to showcase the experiences of a scholarship recipient.

Sometimes I would receive assignments and need to complete them with short notice, which was the case here. Producing a high-priority press release for the event Fashion Week Columbus, I transformed a few quotes and statistics into an engaging narrative.

Writing short weekly features was one of my favorite parts of serving CityScene as a contributing writer and editorial assistant. Compiling articles and reviews, I provided insights on shows, books, restaurants, and more. This post demonstrates my writing’s ability to pack a punch while remaining compact.

City Scene’s five-things-to-do segment provided me with the ultimate challenge: Give enough details to generate excitement among readers while squeezing each event description into two or three sentences. This was a fun exercise in persuasion and concision, and I enjoyed rising to the occasion.
